AMPD1 makes AMP deaminase 1, an enzyme used by skeletal muscle during hard exercise. The common rs17602729 stop variant can greatly lower enzyme activity. DNA estimates expected activity, but it does not measure a person's enzyme level or predict symptoms and sports performance.
