CYP19A1

CYP19A1 encodes aromatase, the cytochrome P450 enzyme that catalyzes the final, rate-limiting step converting androgens (testosterone, androstenedione) into estrogens (estradiol, estrone) in ovary, adipose, brain, and other tissues. Variants such as rs10046 in CYP19A1 are associated with circulating estrogen levels and have been linked to bone density, reproductive hormone balance, and hormone-sensitive disease risk.
