GSTT1

GSTT1 encodes glutathione S-transferase theta 1, a phase II detoxification enzyme that conjugates glutathione to electrophilic compounds including halogenated hydrocarbons and epoxides, aiding their clearance from the body. Like GSTM1, it has a frequent homozygous gene deletion (null genotype) that eliminates enzyme activity, underlying the glutathione/detox-enzyme trait context reported here, and this deletion likewise requires copy-number/structural-variant genotyping rather than standard SNP genotyping.
