TF

TF encodes transferrin, the primary iron-binding glycoprotein in blood plasma that transports ferric iron from sites of absorption and storage to erythroid precursors and other tissues via the transferrin receptor. Common TF variants such as rs3811647 are associated with normal-range variation in serum iron, transferrin saturation, and total iron-binding capacity, distinct from the pathogenic HFE variants that cause hereditary hemochromatosis.
