rs1801198

rs1801198 is the TCN2 Pro259Arg missense variant in the transcobalamin II gene, whose protein product binds and transports vitamin B12 from the intestine into cells. The Arg259 allele is associated with lower plasma holotranscobalamin, the biologically active B12 fraction, which can reduce cellular B12 availability even with adequate dietary intake. Alongside FUT2 rs602662, it is used as inherited context for vitamin B12 transport and status.
