It reached genome-wide significance for pineapple-odor identification in a large-scale olfactory GWAS, with a stronger signal in men, and is thought to tag regulatory variation affecting expression of nearby OR genes whose receptors are candidates for detecting pineapple-associated volatile compounds. It is used with OR4A16 rs669453 to inform pineapple-smell identification differences.
