rs61902559

rs61902559 is a common intergenic variant on chromosome 11, located about 1.7 kb downstream of OR5A2 within a dense cluster of olfactory receptor genes (OR4A16, OR4D6, OR5A2, OR5AN1). It reached genome-wide significance for pineapple-odor identification in a large-scale olfactory GWAS, with a stronger signal in men, and is thought to tag regulatory variation affecting expression of nearby OR genes whose receptors are candidates for detecting pineapple-associated volatile compounds. It is used with OR4A16 rs669453 to inform pineapple-smell identification differences.
