rs6265

rs6265 is the BDNF Val66Met missense variant in the pro-domain of brain-derived neurotrophic factor, a growth factor central to synaptic plasticity, learning, and memory. The Met allele impairs activity-dependent intracellular trafficking and secretion of BDNF from neurons, reducing activity-triggered BDNF release without necessarily changing baseline levels. This altered secretion pattern is the molecular basis for the Neuroplasticity trait.
