rs7442295
rs7442295 is a variant in the SLC2A9 gene, which encodes GLUT9, the transporter responsible for reabsorbing uric acid in the kidney. The A allele is associated with higher serum urate levels and increased risk of hyperuricemia, with an effect that is sex-differential (larger effect in men) and one that roughly doubles hyperuricemia risk per allele in some populations. It is one of the two most-replicated common variants, alongside ABCG2 rs2231142, used to assess polygenic gout and high-uric-acid risk.
