Marker

rs855791

rs855791 is a common missense marker in TMPRSS6. On the GRCh38 forward strand it is A/G at 22:37066896; because TMPRSS6 is on the minus strand, genomic A corresponds to coding T/Val and genomic G to coding C/Ala in the historical Val736Ala notation. Large studies link each A copy to slightly lower serum iron and less-filled iron-carrying proteins. Ferritin and red-cell measures have smaller same-direction links, while total iron-binding capacity moves slightly higher. The marker does not measure iron, diagnose anemia or iron deficiency, or predict supplement response. Genomic C and T are other unstudied alleles and are outside the reviewed map.
