GIPR

GIPR encodes the glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide receptor, a class B1 G-protein-coupled receptor expressed on pancreatic beta cells, adipose tissue, bone, and brain that is activated by the gut hormone GIP after meals to boost glucose-dependent insulin secretion and regulate fat storage and bone homeostasis. Along with GLP1R, it is a core target of incretin-based therapies, and GIPR variants such as rs1800437 are studied for how they modulate weight-loss efficacy and gastrointestinal tolerability of GIP/GLP-1 receptor agonist medications.
