PPCDC

PPCDC encodes phosphopantothenoylcysteine decarboxylase, an enzyme that catalyzes a step in the coenzyme A biosynthesis pathway, converting phosphopantothenoylcysteine to 4'-phosphopantetheine downstream of dietary vitamin B5 (pantothenate). GWAS of circulating trace-element levels have linked variants near PPCDC, including rs2120019, to zinc status, with proposed mechanisms involving interplay between coenzyme A/pantothenate metabolism and zinc handling.
