rs2120019

rs2120019 is a variant near PPCDC, the gene encoding phosphopantothenoylcysteine decarboxylase, an enzyme in the coenzyme A biosynthesis pathway. It lies in a putative regulatory region (evidence of ENCODE regulatory activity near the SNP) rather than changing the PPCDC protein sequence, and was the lead signal in a genome-wide association study of blood trace elements for lower circulating zinc levels. It is used as a marker of genetic tendency toward zinc status.
