rs1803274
rs1803274 is the BCHE Ala539Thr missense variant (the "K-variant," also called CHE*539T), a point change in the butyrylcholinesterase gene. It modestly reduces serum butyrylcholinesterase enzyme activity, and when combined with the atypical rs1799807 variant it further slows breakdown of ester-type neuromuscular blocking drugs such as succinylcholine and mivacurium. This is why it is used as anesthesia context for prolonged recovery from muscle relaxants.
