Medication-triggered red blood cell breakdown (G6PD) is a genetic trait Biome reports in its medication response panel: G6PD deficiency can make certain medicines break down red blood cells. CPIC recommends avoiding high-risk medicines when deficiency is confirmed. For people with one normal and one deficient copy, a blood enzyme test is needed because DNA alone cannot predict enzyme activity.
