rs1726866
rs1726866 is a missense variant in TAS2R38 producing the Ala262Val substitution in this bitter-taste G-protein-coupled receptor. Together with rs713598 (Pro49Ala) and rs10246939 (Val296Ile), it forms one of two common haplotypes — the functional PAV 'taster' haplotype or the non-functional AVI 'non-taster' haplotype — that together explain roughly half of the variance in how strongly PTC/PROP-like bitter compounds (found in cruciferous vegetables and some drugs) are perceived. In this dataset the three-SNP haplotype is used to report bitter taste sensitivity.
